Visit to Pennsylvania University

Visit to Pennsylvania University

Next day we visited the Pennsylvania University in the Penn State, wherein Akshay took his Masters Degree and also Doctorate. We are very much proud that Akshay proved his metal by always ranking very high in his classes during Masters Degree and pursued further his Doctorate with great enthusiasm accompanied with hard work.

During the visit i recollected all the talk we had with him when he was studying here. He that time informed that majority of the students of his class were Chinese and were never responsive as class mates. I think he was the only Indian and a handful of american students with him. In spite of great cultural difference, language issues, lack of family ties, he carried on his studies with full dedication and mingled well with whatever friend circle he got in the college and university. Hats off to his hard work.

While making a tour of the Penn State University we also visited the Logo of the University and has pictures along with him with logo by our side. It was the most memorable event of that day.

Akshay was very studious even during his college days when he was in VIT College of Pune, a prestigious college of Pune that time. He had been indulging in various kinds of research works along with his regular studies in his B,Tech curricular too.

Akshay drove us his university, took us to all the places wherein he was living, showed us the Library wherein he used to spend long hours on reading and research. He also showed us the office his mentor, though we could not meet him in person. He also showed us the hostel, where in he first arrived in the university and then we came to know the sufferings and the hardships he must have undergone in managing all things single handedly. We are really moved by his courage of facing everything signally, without making a single complaint about any matter to us for so many years, when he had been here. He must have encountered number of problems of different nature, but he never made us know about anyone in specific. So nicely, calmly, even under any kind of pressure, he never transferred even a single percent of it to us as parents. Very laudable journey all along. He got good friends, best academic guidance, more particularly high standard- or rather world standard laboratory with the very high cost, highly technically advanced machinery to use and handle, which made him more confident and successful too. The Penn State University is known for its academic excellence, high ranking and very student friendly atmosphere to foster the higher studies in any branch of science and technology.

Thomas and June Beaver Fund Award

Akshay Pradip Gharpure, doctoral student in energy and mineral engineering, received the Thomas and June Beaver Fund Award, which provides recognition and financial assistance to outstanding graduate students enrolled at Penn State who are performing industrially sponsored research.

Gharpure is interested in developing new ways to obtain graphite-based materials needed for energy storage. As a student, he has worked on several industry-sponsored projects exploring the development and commercialization of novel hydrocarbon conversion technologies. Projects focused on transforming unconventional materials into high-value carbon products with improved properties; improving the electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of resins and pitches; improving the quality of tars, pitches and other products obtained from coal using plasma reactor processes; and up-cycling plastic waste materials into graphite.

The Penn State University has reached a Milestone of delivering One Million Degress ,indicating a very powerful Penn State Community. One million degrees tells a remarkable story of opportunity, discovery, and connection. Together Penn Staters continue to shape communities, industries, and the future.
